Description

This class is designed for anyone interested in learning or reviewing the basic techniques of crochet to enhance their creative abilities. Throughout the course, participants will cover the following topics:  1) Proper way to hold the crochet hook and understand its important parts.  2)  Correct technique for holding the yarn and interpreting information on yarn skein labels.  3) Mastery of the six (6) basic crochet stitches and the significance of the foundation row.  4)  Understanding 'turning chains' and their role in crochet.  5) Working in rows with basic stitches, including how to start and finish rows.  6)  Recognition of basic stitches, correct hook placement, and counting of stitches and rows.  7) Familiarization with crochet terminology and abbreviations.  8) Reading level-1 and level-2 crochet patterns.  9)  Adding new yarn and changing yarn color in a crochet piece.  Students will also delve into advanced topics, including reading crochet patterns, shaping in crochet, working in rounds, and understanding diagram patterns. Class size is limited to ten (10) students.

Additional Notes

Please bring to class; one size K crochet-hook, one solid medium color worsted weight Red Heart Yarn or Carron Yarn-#4, (no dark or too light color yarns because you need to be able to see your basic stitches). Also bring small scissors, a tapestry plastic yarn needle with large eye, a tape measure or ruler, and crochet plastic markers.
