Description

In this class you will learn how to make beautiful, colorful buttercream and royal icing flowers to decorate cakes and cupcakes for fall and holidays. You will learn how to make buttercream roses, mums and petal flowers. You will learn how to make colorful lilies and poinsettias with royal icing and learn how to make royal icing. You will need to purchase various supplies prior to class. PREREQUISITE: Must have experience in frosting cakes with buttercream icing.

 Student Supply List for Seasonal Icing Flowers:

For Both Sessions:

  • One or two packages of 12” disposable decorating bags
  • At least one 4-pack of standard size white plastic couplers
  • A package of 4 or more gel food colors
  • Decorating tips: #2, 3, 12, 18, 81, 104, 352, 366 (optional: #16, 70, 150, 61)
  • One #7 flower nail, plastic or metal
  • A set of plastic lily nails
  • A 9” straight or angled metal spatula
  • Scissors and a food safe brush
  • Elastic bag ties (to keep icing bags closed)
  • A package of meringue powder, a package of cream of tartar, 1 tablespoon Crisco, a small bottle of water, 1-2 cups confectioner's sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Also needed: an apron, waxed or parchment paper, aluminum foil, several bowls or cups to mix colors, toothpicks, paper towels, a moist cloth, plastic bag for cleanup, and a box to transport cupcakes & flowers.

For Session One: Teaching Royal Icing

  • 4-6 unfrosted cupcakes
  • One recipe white buttercream icing or a 1 lb tub of ready-made white icing.

For Session Two: Making Flowers w/ Royal Icing

  • One recipe freshly made white royal icing (recommended) or a tub of ready-made royal icing.

Classes held at Rockville High School, Cooking Classrooms 123/125.  

Best Parking and Entrance - Enrichment Class Students may find it more convenient to park in lot A, situated on the north side of the school, directly in front of the Agricultural Science & Technology Education (ASTE) building, for ease of access.

Cancellations & Refund Policy:

  • Vernon Regional Adult Based and Continuing Education reserves the right to make necessary changes, including limiting course enrollment or canceling courses due to insufficient enrollment. If a course is canceled for this reason, registered students will be notified and fully refunded.  

  • Class sessions may be rescheduled due to unforeseen school closures, COVID-related issues, inclement weather, or teacher absences. Refunds or credits will not be provided to students who are unable to attend rescheduled make-up classes.

  • Students assume all risk of changes in their personal schedules. Absence from the class does not reduce the cost of operating our programs, therefore there is no prorating of cost. For this reason student absence does not result in a refund, tuition credit or make-up session.
