PAINTING WITH WATERCOLORS – SUPPLY LIST
(Supplies can be purchased from JoAnn, Michaels, or any other arts and crafts store.)
• Paper: Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Paper, 140 lb. Make sure to get the brown pad, not the yellow one. Paper size should be 9 in x 12 in. One watercolor pad (12 sheets) is enough for the entire course.
• Tracing Paper: 4 sheets of tracing/transfer paper are enough. Size should be 9 in x 12 in. Strathmore makes a pad of transfer paper in that size.
• Paints: Reeves or Winsor & Newton watercolor paint tubes – set of 12 colors (make sure the set includes Ultramarine Blue).
• Brushes: Set of assorted round brushes and a few flat synthetic brushes from Artists Loft or Royal & Langnickel (brushes made for acrylic painting). Most of our work requires #1 to #12 round brushes.
• Watercolor Palette: One with wells and a flat surface.
• Masking Fluid: Susan Scheewe Blue Masking Fluid. Available at Amazon or Jerry’s Artarama, 1109 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
• Pencil, eraser, and sharpener
• Masking Tape: Buy from an arts and crafts store like Michaels or JoAnn. Cheap tape can tear your paper.
• Hard Surface: A piece of plywood, wood, hard cardboard, or foam board large enough to tape your watercolor paper onto.
• Paper Towels: One roll
• Water Containers: 3 containers (any kind)
• Spray Bottle: A bottle that sprays water as a mist.
• Salt: A couple of tablespoons of table salt (any kind).
• Plastic Wrap (Saran Wrap): No specific kind or size required. About one foot square is enough.
Note: If you already have similar supplies at home, please bring them on the first day of class instead of purchasing new ones.
Keep all your receipts in case you need to exchange an item.
